Cripple Creek

Early in 1903 a strike was ordered by the Western Federation of Miners in all mines shipping ore to certain reduction works in Colorado City, and for about two years the district was the scene of many deeds of violence. About an hour west of Colorado Springs liesa historic mining town that perfectly captures the spirit of the western frontier that shaped the state of Colorado. For many years the Cripple Creek Mining District was a series of underground mines.
