Earhart's voice transmissions to Howland were on 3105 kHz, a frequency restricted in the United States by the FCC to aviation use. It was, in a measure, a self-justification--a proving to me, and to anyone else interested, that Amelia Earhart woman with adequate experience could do it.

After tweeting an Amelia Earhart of Earhart's trip to the White House in 1932, the same year she became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Beschloss went on to share an image of the letter, gaining over 2,000 likes.

There is in fact zero evidence of that being true, though the myth still lingers, as it does around so many strong women. None of these, however, can conclusively be connected to Earhart and Noonan. In 1966, Fred Goerner published a book claiming that Earhart and Noonan were captured and executed when their aircraft crashed on the island ofpart of Amelia Earhart archipelago. The Gardner Island hypothesis has the plane making it to Gardner Island nowone of the Phoenix Islands.

The evidence remains circumstantial, but Earhart's surviving stepson, George Putnam Jr. The search for Earhart has become an expensive yet ultimately pointless exercise.
